ComfyUI New Node Manager: State Design, Conflict Detection & Bulk API
UI and state design, conflict detection for six cases, and a bulk API that fetches every node in one call instead of one call per node.

Overview
As Code Owner, I designed and built the new Node Manager that replaces the legacy manager UI in ComfyUI's frontend, from the screens and their states to the conflict detection engine and the ComfyUI-Manager Python backend API.
Background
Problem
- Before installing or updating a custom node pack, users had no way to know about version, OS or GPU compatibility problems.
- The manager called the API once per node, which made it slow.
Goal
- A new manager that detects conflicts before installation and explains why.
- A UI where every state, from installing to needing a restart, is obvious on screen.
What I did
- Designed and built the manager UI and its states myself: pack cards, the info panel, the version selector, installed / installing / restart-required states, enable toggles, Install All and multi-select.
- Built the package and dependency conflict detection and notification system from scratch, covering six types (version, OS, GPU, banned, pending, import failure).
- Cut conflict-detection response time by 43% with batched parallel requests and AbortController-based error isolation.
- Added a bulk API to the ComfyUI-Manager Python backend that takes the node list as an array and answers in one response, and wired it to store caching, so the manager no longer queries once per node.
- Kept ownership of the feature through two large re-architectures, including the move to a standalone manager extension.
Results
- One call per node → one call
The manager used to call the API once for every node. I added a bulk endpoint to the ComfyUI-Manager Python backend that takes the node list as an array and returns everything in one response, wired to store caching.
- 43% faster conflict detection
Batched parallel requests and AbortController error isolation made conflict checks faster.
Key features
- 01
Install state design
Installed, installing, restart-required and pending states, plus a flow that applies every change at once.
- 02
Conflict detection and alerts
Detects six kinds of conflicts and surfaces them on pack cards and in notifications.
- 03
Info panel and version selector
Pack details, compatibility warnings and version selection in one panel.
